Computational resources and the Internet have created an ocean of data
From electronic communications to geotagging services and from public records to investment registers, the growth of data is staggering. Indeed, research predicts a five-fold increase in the quantity of digital data by 2012, a growth rate that even surpasses the growth in computing power predicted by Moore's Law.
“Big data” has enormous potential
Leaders must often make decisions based on incomplete or even inaccurate information. In principle, our newfound wealth of data can better-inform our decision makers, enabling them to predict the consequences of their actions. “Big data”, however, is only the raw material from which insight must be extracted. How should we interpret, analyze, and confidently act upon this information?
Extracting insight requires more than the standard approaches
Simply crunching data with statistical “black box” models, which do not incorporate any knowledge about the data, is a useless approach for making actionable decisions. First, we fundamentally believe each every data set is unique, so recycling approaches should be used sparingly. We do not try to cast a problem such that a particular set of tools can be used; rather, we use whatever technique is appropriate for the problem at hand given the data we have.
Second, it is difficult (and maybe even unwise) to act on the suggestion of a consultant or analyst if you do not have confidence in the results. We believe that the most effective way to convey our suggestions is through clear and concise visuals — LivingReports™ — which allow anyone from an entry-level to lifetime employee to interpret and act on our analysis.
Our approach is unique
We recognize our clients' expertise and consequently work closely with our clients to help them interpret their data and solve their problems. We then develop tailored solutions from solid fundamentals and design intuitive visual representations that allow our clients to confidently make informed decisions.
The time is now
The need for accurate analytics has been well-publicized recently in several prominent periodicals. Some of our favorites include:
